Will my furniture loose value if refinished ?

This concept applies only to a few items of historical value normally displayed in
museums or private collections.
Such valuable items should be restored with conservative techniques that implies the
salvage and preservation of the original finish or part of the finish left on the item.
After such extremely time consuming and expensive procedure the item should be
conserved in a controlled museum environment.
If you own an original piece or a piece of historical value the restoration by
conservation is the way to go to preserve the value of the item.

Most of the furniture found in private homes and in need for restoration are
reproductions of famous styles and in the vast majority of the cases such furniture
were also manufactured by an early massive production line method and therefore are
of limited historical but irreplaceable sentimental value. Therefore, if you like to gather
around grandma's table during the holidays and be sure that your grandchildren will
be able to enjoy such privilege as well. You must perform all the maintenance needed
to preserve the structural integrity of that table and protect the wood with new finishes.
